Born in 1966, a native of Dongguan, Guangdong. Since 1983, he has been engaged in ceramic art and research in Shiwan, Foshan. In 1991, he graduated from the Sculpture Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and returned to work in the creative room of Shiwan Fine Art Ceramics Factory. In 2004, he founded the Huang Zhiwei Art Studio of Shiwan Doll Yellow Pottery Art Workshop, and in 2016 established the Foshan Huang Zhiwei Culture and Art Research Institute.
In more than 30 years of artistic exploration, he has worked diligently and is good at organically combining traditional Shiwan pottery art with traditional Chinese aesthetics and modern sculpture theories at home and abroad, making his works bold and unrestrained, with vivid charm, and showing the extraordinary, refined and elegant....
Huang Zhiwei is more able to learn from the past and the present in his creation. While combining other techniques, he tirelessly explores and innovates, boldly absorbs the "eighteen methods" of Chinese line drawing and blends the essence of the block structure of the Han Dynasty and modern times, and innovates new methods of pottery and sculpture—— "Line molding" (National Invention Patent No.: 201210227734.4), breaking through the inherent formula of ordinary sculpture, flexibly and freely exerting the unique morphological charm of pottery clay lines, using the "line" of clay sticks to shape "face", "shape" and "god". The combination of meaning and novelty make the theme of the work stand out. It was highly praised and purchased by connoisseurs, opening up a new world of modern Shiwan pottery sculpture techniques. Mr. Huang Zhiwei's teacher, Mr. Pan He, a master of Chinese sculpture circles, commented on this: "Follow the tradition and open the avant-garde"!
His works have been exhibited and published many times in China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States. More than ten works such as "Leisure Laozi", "Transcendence", and "Huang Feihong Group Sculpture" won 17 times. Some of them were awarded as national treasures, and were collected by the National Museum of China, the Art Museum of China, and the Art Museum of Louisiana State University in the United States. He himself has been invited many times to participate in international ceramic art academic exchanges, seminars, and works creation performances.
