Edith Beurskens is a visual artist based in Amsterdam. With a focus on graphic and interior design, she spent years working for a long list of well-known brands before deciding to start her own artistic venture. Inspired by interiors and natural materials, Edith has designed a range of graphic, three-dimensional pieces. The result is a collection of striking, structural pieces that can be displayed on their own, or grouped together.

The base of the works is made from a plant-based material known as PLA-a biodegradable material derived from plant sugars such as corn, cassava, sugarcane or sugar beet. When transformed into a filament, it takes on a flexible quality that Edith uses to mould into abstract, graphic shapes before plastering and painting them by hand. The layers and hand-painted forms make for unique and one-of-a-kind artistry, adding dimension and textures to walls and spaces. It creates depth and structure, even in spaces where there is none.

Over time, Beurskens has diversified her practice. For instance, she creates digital art prints inspired by her intricate geometric 3D compositions. However, contrary to her 3D works, in her prints, she plays with a broader colour palette juxtaposing contrasting colours as a means to add an illusion of depth to these limited-edition works. Both her 3D works and prints evidence the obsession of this artist with depth, volume, and patterns, all resulting in seemingly endless variations of puzzles.
