CLEIJ ORIENTAL ART
2022-07-27

In the 17th and 18th century the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was one of the largest traders of oriental porcelain. They supplied not only the Dutch, but also other European markets. As a result of the large demand for porcelain, enormous quantities were shipped to the Netherlands. It's not until the 1780's that as a result of the Napoleonic war, the Dutch stopped the China trade completely, and their market share was taken over by English and American traders.

Throughout the Netherlands it is still fashionable to display antique oriental porcelain. It is therefore possible to find rare pieces of Chinese and Japanese export porcelain in Dutch estates. We try to find such pieces and offer them to our customers around the world. All pieces sold by us have been obtained in the Netherlands and surrounding countries.

We are specialized in Chinese export porcelain from the 17th and 18th century, with an emphasis on wares produced during the reigns of the emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, as well as Japanese porcelain from the same period. Everything sold on cleij-art.com is guaranteed over 200 years old. We have decades of experience in the study and collection of antique Chinese and Japanese porcelain. All material is studied in detail before it is offered to our clientele. As a result all pieces are guaranteed to be from the era represented in the description.

We are currently located in Belgium, but you can only find us on the web. We maintain a large stock of Chinese and Japanese export porcelain. In addition to direct sales, we have been selling on eBay since 1998 (eBay ID: cleij). Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
