陶溪川艺术中心讲座本期邀请到驻场艺术家Eleanor Wheeler，于2023年11月22日，周三晚上19:00于陶溪川景德镇国际工作室带来主题为《Eleanor Wheeler——公共艺术陶瓷》的讲座。

Taoxichuan Art Center Lecture invited Artist-in-Residence Eleanor Wheeler to present a lecture on the theme of "My work- Ceramics for Public Art" at 19:00 on Wednesday, 22nd November 2023 at the Jingdezhen International Studio in Taoxichuan.

Eleanor是一位陶瓷艺术家，生活和工作在北爱尔兰。她在苏格兰阿伯丁艺术学院学习陶瓷和3D设计，然后在威尔士加的夫学院攻读陶瓷硕士学位。之后她在英国泰恩河畔纽卡斯尔的诺森比亚大学完成了建筑陶瓷和公共艺术的博士学位。回到北爱尔兰后，她专注于为公共空间、建筑和花园制作大型雕塑陶瓷。后期Eleanor的广泛旅行激发了她的新作品，培养了她对不同文化的迷恋，以及人类与动物和鸟类之间的关系，这些动物和鸟类具有象征性和文化意义。在本次讲座中Eleanor Wheeler将分享她多年的创作历程。

Eleanor lives and works as a ceramic artist in Northern Ireland.She studied ceramics and 3D design in art college, Aberdeen, Scotland and then went on to follow a masters program in ceramics in Cardiff college, wales. She then completed a PhD in architectural ceramics and public art at Northumbria university, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.Upon returning to Northern Ireland she has specialise in making large scale sculptural ceramics for public spaces, buildings and gardens.Eleanor travels extensively and this inspires new work, nurturing the artist’s fascination with different cultures and mankind’s relationship with animals and birds, in terms of their symbolic and cultural significance.In this lecture，Eleanor Wheeler will share her creative journey over the years.

公共艺术泛指一切置于自由开放的公共空间的建筑、雕塑、壁画等艺术作品，是更加面向大众/社会的艺术，不像其他可能只是表达艺术家独立的艺术思想和放在室内的艺术馆进行展览的作品，其存在更多依托于环境，是对于景观环境的视觉补充。

Public art refers to all works of art such as architecture, sculpture, murals, etc. that are placed in free and open public spaces, and are more oriented to the general public/society, unlike other works that may only express the artist's independent artistic ideas and are placed in indoor art galleries for exhibitions, whose existence depends more on the environment, and is a visual complement to the landscape environment.

Eleanor Wheele specializes in large-scale sculptural ceramics for public spaces, buildings and gardens, often creating relief panels for walls to blend in with different environments.
