UNDERSTAND YOUR GLAZE

11th April – 13th April 2023

Do you love glazes, and would you like to be able to mix, adjust and dye them yourself?

Gain knowledge about materials, methods and tools and get dressed to be able to develop your own glaze expression.

In this course, we review the structure of glaze, raw materials, dyes, and the basic glaze chemistry. We also touch on topics such as safety, glaze errors and burning curves. You will get practical experience and tricks for mixing glazes, and we look at methods to try out many different color variants in short(er) time. Together, we get to test and burn several different glazes, so you get a knowledge of the influence the different raw materials have on the glaze – and you get the recipes home, ready to use in your own oven. We burn at 1260 degrees (Cone 7).

What to bring:

Dust mask is mandatory, please bring fine weight and hand blender. Bring your own clay samples if you want glaze samples on the glazes we develop – the clay must be able to be burned to my 1260 degrees.

Material costs must be expected.
