I make functional pottery mostly on the wheel, handmade pieces designed for everyday use. I am a self-taught potter learning out of necessity when I had to teach a ceramics class in my old job, working for many years as a youth worker/counsellor.
Throwing on the wheel is this strangely addictive, infuriating endeavour that hooked me in. But it wasn’t until three years ago that I started pursuing my own personal work. From the beginning I have always wanted the pieces to be functional, to feel good in your hand or on your lips, to mix contemporary bold colours with painterly strokes. For the pots be useful but a bit special, giving the user a sense that the piece was made especially for them.
