Melbourne-based Jan Vogelpoel produces unique sculptural pieces that reflect her love of organic shapes, vibrant shades, and graphic lines.
Born in the UK, raised in South Africa, Jan has worked with clay for over 20 years, honing her skills under the direction of famed Capetonian ceramicist Barbara Jackson and teacher Karen Scott. Jan has fulfilled numerous commissions and is currently represented by Modern Times and Craft Victoria in Melbourne, Becker Minty in Sydney and Laclaireur in Los Angeles.
Jan is currently working from her home studio building sculptural work and exploring the exciting textures and forms offered by earthenware, sculpture clay, black clay and terracotta.
Jan’s work in graphic design, interior styling and art direction over the past 25 years has led her to work with a wide range of clients and projects in the interior and fashion industries. She is now pursuing her passion with clay.
The process of building a sculpture is tangible and permanent. Jan’s current body of work reflects her passion for the process of bringing an idea to life through manipulating and building sculptural pieces that carry the energy of nature and the maker, which is something she finds both grounding and challenging, but ultimately rewarding.
