    Artist Biography

    Deng Wenke, 1930-2018, male, from Liling, Hunan, a famous Chinese ceramic arts and crafts master, and an executive director of the Designers Research Association of the Chinese Arts and Crafts Society. The owner of Qingfeng Building, who has learned art from his teacher since childhood, has worked hard for half a century in the ceramic art garden with profound skills. He is an expert awarded by the State Council for "Making Outstanding Contributions to the Development of my country's Culture and Art", a Chinese master of arts and crafts who enjoys special government allowances, a master of Chinese ceramics, a national senior arts and crafts artist, and the main designer of Chairman Mao's porcelain one.

    He studied art in 1944 and worked in Liling Pottery Painting Cooperative in 1950.

    From 1956 to 1996, he worked at the Hunan Provincial Ceramic Research Institute and created a large number of underglaze ceramics. He participated in ceramic art exhibitions in more than 30 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. Many works received various awards. And published in some newspapers, magazines, and large-scale picture albums across the country. The General Office of the State Council, Zhongnanhai Ziguang, Beijing's Great Hall of the People, China Art Museum and other political and cultural elegant halls also have his ceramic works displayed and collected.

    In the creation of ceramic art, he not only attaches importance to tradition but is not restricted by tradition and method, but can release the splendor of the times. He created a large number of works to participate in domestic and foreign exhibitions, many of his works were published and won national, provincial, and departmental awards; some of his works were collected in large-scale albums such as "Chinese Arts and Crafts" and "Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics"; some It was selected as the furnishings of the Beijing Great Hall of the People and the National Olympic Sports Center; some were selected as national gifts for foreign leaders; the large-scale "Porcelain Carving Palace Lantern" designed by him was rated as a national treasure by experts, CCTV, China International Broadcasting stations, "People's Daily" and other national news organizations reported. It has made extremely important contributions to the restoration and development of Liling underglaze colored porcelain. In addition, he has high attainments in Chinese painting and calligraphy, especially in flowers and birds, seal script, and official script. His name has been included in the "Dictionary of Chinese Modern Artists".

    In 2009, he was named the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Inheritor of Liling Underglaze Multicolored Porcelain".
