Artist's Work

Blown by the Wind

    Work introduction

In my approach to ceramics, I try to personaly feel but also bring out the autonomy of porcelain before it takes shape. Whether there is congruence or not, there is equilibrium or break; there is folding and winding, interlacing, networking, unfolding, sinking… Like the long grass dancing outside in the wind.

The porcelain sheet is also my white sheet; as the writer’s blank sheet. It becomes covered with signs, texts, imprints left in the clay; ancestral approach.

In the present artwork, Blown by the wind (2019), the framework of my story became the woof of a fabric flapping in the wind. Evoking my recent artist residency in China, the coloured “fabric” with geometric patterns is inspired by Bainayi silk jacket (Qing Dynasty; Tsinghua University Museum, Beijing). And the two blank pages are awaiting a new story.

Text & textile. The two terms have the same etymological origin: the Latin word textus (“fabric”, “framework”, “text”), and a very close voicing in French, which allows easily sliding from one to the other.

I focused my gaze, and thereby invite that of the visitor, on the instant just before the material becomes a support: sewing support that comes to dress and embellish a body, or writing support that holds a story. That story becomes universal; mine, yours.
